Ireland the Bail Out and the Transport Industry - where's the future?
I watched with interest as the Irish Government finally capitulated to pressure from the European Community to accept a emergency bailout of its economy. It must have been a very bitter pill to swallow for the hard hit people of Ireland but one that I believe will be best option in the long run; you’re probably wondering why I would bother to voice my view or even worse be qualified to have a view, but as I am one of the debt ridden tax payers of the UK, I know what it’s like to wake up in the morning and know my kids will be paying off the greedy finance houses and Banks debts when I am dead and gone.
So if that in any way qualifies me to voice an opinion, the purpose of pointing out something that is now yesterdays ‘chip paper’ is that I believe, the small businesses of Ireland can expect the likes of RBS and Anglo Irish to step up to the plate and start setting up their stall in earnest. Lending and Commerce are coming back to Ireland make no mistake! Maybe not now, maybe not tomorrow, but it’s coming and with it the seeds of change that will wake The Celtic Tiger again, perhaps with less teeth and claws but none the less an animal to contend with. Consumers are going to have more money in their pockets to buy the product that the Transport Industry is going to bring in, and we all know those tired trucks are on their last legs are going to have to be replaced.
Global Commercials have been supplying trucks to Ireland for longer than I like to remember. You expect value, you expect quality and you expect a great sales service, we have always provided it and nothing has changed. So bear us in mind when you see your markets start to breathe life again, open your computer and see our stock on www.global-commercials.com or call us direct on 01753 831647, were only call away.
Buying used commercial trucks - use finance it's easy!
Sometimes, especially at this time of year, when the last thing you need is to replace the truck that keeps breaking down. Having a helping hand to spread the cost is a Gods send! Whilst the Banks have been extremely difficult about supporting the small business man the large Finance Houses are still open for business and more than willing, if you tick all the boxes, to provide you with that allusive sum that will secure you a ‘work horse’ that will actually do the job.
Here at Global Commercials we work with Associated Commercial Finance and Lombard North Central PLC to help our hard working clients secure a ‘Hire Purchase Agreement’ that they can manage without causing undue hardship. There are many reasons why Hire Purchase could be the option for you when making that all important decision to buy a new truck; some of those benefits which include flexible repayments, fixed or variable interest options and the all important Tax advantage which are not normally pointed out. Let me just enlighten you if you don’t already know this, you can normally claim a write down allowance and perhaps capital grants, while repayment interest against profit, VAT is usually reclaimed on HGV’s.
So if you want to beat the VAT hike in January and want to ensure you’ve got the very best vehicle you can afford for the future call Global Commercials on 01753 831647 or look through through our current stock n our website. Remember in some cases we’ll take that old truck in part ex from you as part of the deal. Don’t put if off CALL US NOW!
LEZ Emissions Standards Decision
Well we’ve been waiting with baited breath and the Mayor Boris Johnson and his minions have produced the guidelines setting the ground rules for trucks working in London that will come into force from 3rd January 2012. That gives the hard pressed transport industry a bonus of an additional 15 months to make sure that they are in a position to comply when D Day comes!
So let me simplify these new rules for the laymen amongst us, any vehicle over 3.5 ton gross registered as new with the DVLA on or after 1st October 2001 are presumed Euro III, so will not comply with the LEZ emissions rules. Any vehicle that does not meet this criteria can be modified to meet Euro IV. Any vehicle that is not registered or has not been modified will have to pay a daily charge if used within the designated zone. Obviously any truck registered after 1st October 2006 will be assumed to be a Euro IV vehicle and will meet the LEZ standard.
As I’m in the business of supplying used commercial vehicles I don’t need to tell you that the vehicles that comply according to their age are going to become rarer and rarer as the 2012 deadline rolls along. We will be buying part of our stock quota to fill LEZ criteria next year. For those whose pockets are deep enough, or perhaps you want to part ex that old truck for something that going to do the job in the emissions zone, give us a call on 01753 831647 or have a look at our website on www.global-commercials.com. Like I said if the trucks not there we will be taking a ‘wait list’ for potential clients and will serve them on a first come first served basis.
January 1st 2011 is looming!
Most customers that I come across in this industry do not just want quality and reliability from a truck they also want good value, that’s something I think we all desire if we could draw up our own ‘wish list’. Well just in case you haven’t already put a note in your diaries VAT is rising from 17.5% to 20% on January 1st 2011.
Purchasing a truck or several is an expensive business, and if I were crunching numbers now working out a budget to upgrade my rolling stock, I would definitely factor in the saving you would enjoy by doing that buying NOW and avoiding that two and half percent hike! If you are in the market for a quality used commercial vehicle then please call us on 01753 831647 or check out our website on www.global-commercials.com, if we haven’t got the product you want we will do our utmost to source it for you; and don’t forget at Global Commercials we may even take your old truck in part exchange!
Word to the wise!
I maybe stating the obvious but now the snow is falling and the black ice in on the roads you may be thinking when you are desperately trying to start that truck ‘ I should have invested in something more reliable’. Trust me since the cold snap the phones have been ringing off the hook, so you’re alone; the point I’m trying to make is what you already know, that vehicle that you have been putting off replacing is on its last legs, the more you invest in it the more of a financial drain it becomes and less chance you have of recouping any of that hard earn’t money towards a newer model.
If any of this makes sense then pick up the phone and call global commercials 01753 831647 we’ll supply what you need at a fair price and we may even take your old truck in part ex. It’s a win win situation so before the winter really takes hold, make the right choice and trade up.
Fuel Duty Briefing
The UK has the second highest diesel price in the EU and with VAT now standing at 20 percent, fuel duty is at a record high. On average in the EU a liter of diesel is made up of 51 percent product price and 49 percent tax, whereas in the UK the average is 38 percent product price and 62 percent tax. The basic concept of the governments drive for a ‘fuel duty stabilizer’ is that when oil prices increase, the stabilizer will allow Government to reduce duty to a lower limit, and when oil prices fall, the Government will be able to raise duty levels to a higher limit.
To ensure that the Treasury hears from small businesses and independent drivers who are suffering from cash flow difficulties as a direct result of the increase in VAT and the ongoing fuel charges please email your local MP urging them to write to the Chancellor to keep their promise and bring in the stabilizer NOW. Our MP’s should all be more than happy to back this initiative and sign the Early Day Motion 1252 as soon as possible.
Export Market
Global Commercials have always had the capacity to do Left Hand Drive conversions, but over the last three years the market demand has shrunk due to the worldwide ‘Credit Crunch’. However, having said that we have been tracking renewed interest in conversions and would like to use this blog to reiterate the importance of purchasing a good quality DAF truck for conversion firstly, and ensure that the company that undertakes that work for you is a) qualified in all aspects of workshop engineering, b) have access to DAF Diagnostics and c) use DAF manufactured parts.
There are always going to be companies that supply and convert trucks cheaper than Global but we are not in this business to provide our customers with cheap and all that is associated with cheap. We have been trading for over twenty five years because our reputation for providing good quality, value and customer service is second to none. That investment in a truck that you know is going to give you possibly years of service is what our customers both overseas and in the UK demand and deserve.
If we can help you with sourcing a truck and conversion then please contact us directly on 01753 831647 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
